Storytime demo privacy notice

How we handle what you share when you try Storytime with Spud.

Last updated 26 October 2026

About this notice

This notice explains how Comfort Quest Pty Ltd (ABN 56 639 463 460) ("Comfort Quest", "we", "us") handles personal information in the Storytime with Spud demo (storytime.comfortquest.io). We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

Storytime with Spud is a demonstration of our technology for clinicians, researchers and organisations considering working with us. It isn't a clinical or health service, and it doesn't give medical advice.

The email address you give us on comfortquest.io to get access is covered by our website privacy policy.

If you try it with a child

The demo is designed for an adult to try, either alone or with a child they care for. If a child takes part, a parent or carer should be with them the whole time and agrees to this notice on their behalf.

You don't have to use real details. A nickname or a made-up name works just as well. Please don't share a child's full name, medical details or anything else that identifies them.

What we collect

WhenWhat
Before the storyA first name or nickname for the child, their age, their pronouns, one to three things they love, what's coming up for them, what they call you, and the email address to send the plan to
During the storyThe voices of everyone talking to Spud, streamed live while the session runs, and a written transcript of the conversation
After the storyA short plan card: the coping step from the story and a line from it

Health information. If you tell Spud about a medical procedure or how a child is feeling about it, that's health information. We only use it to run the story and make the plan card.

Your microphone. Your browser asks before the demo can use your microphone. Spud only listens while a session is running, and you can end it at any time.

Technical information. Our hosting provider records standard details of each visit, such as your IP address and browser type. Each session also gets a random ID, which we pass to the voice service to help it detect misuse. It doesn't identify you. Your browser keeps your answers for the current session and remembers which microphone you chose.

How we use it

  • to run the story: your answers shape what Spud talks about, and the live audio lets you talk with him
  • to turn the transcript into a plan card
  • to email the plan card to the address you give
  • to keep the demo safe, limit session length and fix problems

We don't sell personal information, we don't use the email address for marketing, and we don't use demo conversations to train AI models.

Who we share it with

We use service providers to run the demo on our behalf, only to provide their service:

  • a voice AI service runs Spud's side of the conversation and writes the transcript. It receives your answers from before the story and the live audio
  • an AI service reads the transcript and writes the plan card
  • an email service sends the plan card
  • our hosting provider runs the demo website

We use these services under business terms that don't allow them to use your information to train their models.

We may also disclose information where the law requires or allows it.

Where it's stored. Our service providers process information outside Australia, mainly in the United States and Japan. We choose providers with strong security practices, and we take reasonable steps to make sure they handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Storage and retention

We don't keep recordings, transcripts or your answers in a database. Your answers stay in your browser tab and are cleared when you close it. The plan card goes to the email address you give.

The AI services may keep what they receive for a limited time for safety and abuse monitoring, as their terms allow, then delete it. The email service keeps a record that the email was sent. If something goes wrong in a session, our hosting provider's logs may briefly hold part of it, and those logs are deleted automatically.

Questions and complaints

To ask a question, make a request or complain about how we've handled your information, use the contact form or email hello@comfortquest.io. Tell us what happened and how to reach you.

We'll acknowledge your complaint within 7 days and aim to resolve it within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

We'll update this notice when the apps or the way we handle information changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
